Sheriff Neal Rohlfing started his career with the Fairview Heights Police Department in 2001, as patrolman where he worked for 7 years. During that time period he was a field training officer, firearms instructor, officer in charge of patrol, and a member of the Illinois Law enforcement Alarm System Weapons of Mass Destruction Special Response Team, and an Assistant Team Leader for the Sniper Team.

Sheriff Rohlfing was assigned to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department Drug Tactical Unit for 2 years where he investigated local drug crimes and worked in the undercover capacity on many occasions buying narcotics.

For 4 years Sheriff Rohlfing was assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force where he investigated large drug trafficking organizations. These investigations involved the seizures of large amounts of narcotics and United States Currency. 

During the course of Sheriff Rohlfing’s career at the Fairview Heights Police Department he received to numerous awards for being proactive against criminal activity to include: Fairview Heights Police Patrolman of the Year 2003, 2004, and 2009, Aggressive Criminal Enforcement for 2003-2005 and 2008-2009, Mothers Against Drunk Driving Hero Award 2003-2005, Fairview Heights Police Meritorious Award 2013, Southern Illinois Law Enforcement Commission of Merit 2014, and Outstanding Investigator Award from the Drug Enforcement Administration 2014.

In 2014, Rohlfing was elected to his first term as Monroe County Sheriff and has been re-elected twice since. The past 10 years Sheriff Rohlfing has strived to provide the residents of Monroe County the highest level of public safety possible. The Sheriff’s Department aggressively pursues violent offenders and drug dealers. Sheriff Rohlfing created the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Unit (ACE) to combat drug crime. The Sheriff’s Department joined the Attorney Generals Internet Crimes against children task force where they investigate individuals that buy and sell child pornography and those that attempt to exploit children. The Sheriff’s Department has participated in drug awareness programs for the youth and created a youth police academy. The Sheriff’s Department joined Offender Watch where residents can track sex offenders in their area. The Sheriff’s Department has conducted aggressive intruder training for dozens of schools, churches, and businesses throughout Monroe County.

Sheriff Rohlfing serves on the Major Case Squad Executive board, Vice President Southern Illinois Law enforcement Commission, President of the Metropolitan Enforcement Group of Southwestern Illinois, Illinois Sheriff’s Association Membership, Training, and Legislative committees, Supervisor of Monroe County Emergency Management and 911 system, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations Joint Terrorism Task Force.
