The essential role of the patrol division is to maintain public safety. Deputies work diligently to foster community relations, enforce laws, and provide a visible security presence, thereby enhancing neighborhood safety and reducing crime. This division is committed to proactive patrolling to ensure the well-being of both residents and visitors.
Ensuring Community Safety Through Dedicated Patrol Services
The Patrol Division of the Monroe County Sheriff's Department is staffed by twelve full-time Patrol Deputies with two patrol Sergeants covering four shifts to provide 24-hour police protection to the citizens of Monroe County. Each patrol shift is directly supervised by a Patrol Sergeant or an Officer In Charge (OIC) who, in addition to patrol assignments, also perform administrative duties related to the personnel they supervise. The Patrol Division, like the Investigations Division, is overseen and managed by the Major.
What does Patrol do?
When not handling calls for service and generating written reports on their activities, Patrol Deputies are also responsible for enforcing traffic and criminal laws, DUI enforcement, drug interdiction, and serving arrest warrants and civil process papers. The Patrol Division routinely assists local law enforcement officers, the Columbia Police Department, Waterloo Police Department, Valmeyer Police Department, Illinois State Police, and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (Conservation Police).
In addition to patrolling the 398 square miles of Monroe County with a population of over 35,000 citizens, the Patrol Division is responsible for responding to calls for service in the unincorporated areas of the County and in the local towns and villages that do not have a 24-hour police service.
