Monroe County Sheriff’s Department – Ongoing Police Presence Columbia

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, along with the Columbia Police Department, the Waterloo Police Department, and the Illinois State Police, is currently on scene at a residence in the 1800 block of Meadow Court in Columbia, Illinois, regarding a barricaded subject.

This incident began at approximately 12:30 a.m. when deputies initially responded to a report of a stolen firearm from the residence. Upon arrival, deputies encountered the suspect inside the home’s basement. The subject refused to comply with commands, barricaded himself inside, and made threats toward law enforcement.

For public safety, residents are asked to avoid the area until further notice. If you must travel near Meadow Court, please plan accordingly to avoid delays and give yourself extra time. There is currently a large police presence in the area as law enforcement officers continue to manage the situation. Negotiations with the subject are ongoing.

There is no immediate threat to the broader community, but out of caution, the area has been secured.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department is being assisted by the Columbia Police Department, the Waterloo Police Department, the Illinois State Police, Columbia EMS, and other partner agencies. Updates will be provided as the situation develops.
