Important Community Safety Alert
Early this morning, around 3:00 a.m., a neighboring community just outside Monroe County was struck with multiple vehicle burglaries and even the theft of a motor vehicle. In nearly every case, the vehicles were left unlocked with valuables inside.
How YOU can help prevent becoming a victim:
• Always lock your doors — even when parked in your driveway.
• Remove all valuables from plain view (wallets, purses, laptops, firearms, etc.).
• Never leave your keys or key fobs inside your vehicle.
• Park in well-lit areas whenever possible.
• Report suspicious activity immediately — your call could prevent the next crime.
Help us protect Monroe County even faster:
Citizens can now assist our Investigators by registering your home or business security cameras with the Sheriff’s Department. This program does not give us access to your cameras. Instead, it allows us to quickly identify possible camera locations if a crime occurs in your area, helping us pinpoint evidence and identify suspects or suspect vehicles faster.

Criminals who commit these offenses often research neighborhoods before striking. They don’t just target subdivisions near highways — they also hit backroads, rural areas, and country neighborhoods.
And to those criminals thinking about targeting Monroe County:
Understand this — the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department does not play games. If you attempt to commit crimes against our citizens, we will chase you down. We will use every resource available, and with the partnership of the State’s Attorney’s Office, we will do everything in our power to ensure you are held fully accountable. That may mean ending up behind bars — whether in the County Jail, a Juvenile Detention Center, or State Prison. If juveniles are involved, we will also pursue charges against parents when appropriate.
Our citizens deserve to feel safe in their homes and communities. Together, with your help, awareness, and camera registration, we will continue to protect Monroe County.
